At my financial services company each department has a separate VLAN and subnet and only authorized PCs are given an IP in the range that is allowed between certain subnets.
By default all PCs can see the server network, but few if any PCs can see other HR or Accounting PCs. In addition, it would be pretty easy to implement an IPS between networks provided you had gig ports and a gig IPS. Klint David W.
