I think it's awesome, assuming you have the server horsepower to service it. And I suspect you do since it doesn't take much. Clean easy to use web interface, check in/check out....version history area for notes by each users. What's not to love :)
The only thing to watch is bringing back a single version of a document that gets deleted or messed up by a user. You need to make sure your backup solution does item level restores/backups.
