We'll be using Hyper-V, but the same principle applies. One thing the backup-to-external-eSATA-disk gets us (depending on how we do it) is the ability to plug that disk into another box and use it as part of a disaster recovery scenario. (By "disaster" here, I mean something like "building burns down", not the lesser events that DR often includes.) The server we're spec'ing will have the RAID controller on an expansion card. One other recovery scenario is to remove the disks and controller, stick them in another chassis, and run from that. Windows' behavior in the face of hardware changes might mean we need a separate OS disk in that box, but it's another possible strategy. Again, likely more appropriate as a contingency if primary and secondary plans fail. -- Ben ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
