Haven't created a raid 10 set on that controller, but a raid 1 is almost instantaneous.

My question is this - should I expect it to take long to reconfigure the disks and be able to start loading the OS? Mainly I'm wondering if there's a long "please wait while building array" step once I configure the RAID arrays in the system setup (in this case, Dell PERC 6/I, four 450GB SAS drives on a Dell T605 tower).
