Yeah, that's the way I'm leaning.  Ethernet will work with Linux, but the USB 
device may need some special Win32 drivers to work right.

True, but I'm also using a lot of recycled desktop PCs as headless IPCop 
firewalls, and I'm looking into using them as FreeNAS local backup servers for 
clients with limited needs. 

Thanks for your comments on GRUB and serial support.  Newer boxes are starting 
to come without PS/2 or serial ports, too, so I need to plan for that as well.
