I use the 64-bit version on my desktop and 32-bit version on my laptop. Both work o.k. but again, add-ins do have to be written specifically for the 64-bit version. That will impact some folks more than others.
I haven't noticed any obvious performance differences in the 64-bit version but I probably don't use large enough data sets in Excel. Ben M. But then again, I'd rather do data analysis in Excel than writing complex sql queries, because I know how to use Excel better. :) I only lost two add-ins, one in Outlook (which the MAPILabs folks were happy to fix up for me) and one in Word (which is also available, with more features, as a web service). So x64 Office was a major win for me. Regards, Michael B. Smith Consultant and Exchange MVP http://TheEssentialExchange.com From: Ben M. Excel and Outlook (and maybe Word in extreme cases) are the only apps in the basic suite that can sometimes benefit from the 64-bit and even then only if you have rather large data sets. Ben M. But I would think twice about uninstalling 32-bit Office 2010 and installing 64-bit Office 2010. You need to think about the programs and add-ins that you are using or might use with Office 2010. A lot of them will not work with the 64-bit version. Nothing more frustrating than trying to determine why something won't work only to discover that the 64-bit version of Office is the reason. Even Microsoft recommends using the 32-bit version. Unless you really need the large memory capacity for Excel. I bought Office 2010 for home and thought I had ordered 64 bit, received 32 bit which I did not notice until after installing. The DVD did not indicated which version was on it. I have no problem uninstalling Office and installing the 64 bit version. Just wanted to know if I could use the same license key or if I had to buy the 64 bit version of Office.
