Many many years ago, I had to send in a Western Digital drive that had the click of death to a data recovery company. Now I knew it was toast as it would go Click, shhhh shhhh shhh Click (sound of the drive head running on the platter). However, managment demanded that it be sent.
The data recovery company sent the drive back with a plastic bag full of glitter and a note that said they didn't think tapping the stuff back onthe platter would help.
