Read the comments carefully. I disabled NetBIOS at home for a while (3-4 months), but didn't like the changes. Nothing really major, but NET VIEW dies, and some other things like that. These can be worked around, but some thing in SQL still use the service.
I haven't bothered to remove it from %work%. Easy enough to mitigate the risks.
