one of our customers uses and App, that has an SQL back end, and the front
end client stores various settings locally in an ini along with a whole
heap of files, and central files etc on a mapped drve

This package is updated by the vendor at least once a month, and the update
has top be run on each client.

On Widnows XP no Probs login as domain admin with local admin rights and
update works.

windows 7 No probs login as domain admin with local admin rights and run up
date elevated and it works.

Windows Vista you get a pop telling you "Due to enhanced security in
Windows Vista this update has to be run as local Administrator"

Yep you actually have to login as the local administrator, no other account
the actual local administrator account, and then from there connect and map
the drive to the share, and the run the install as and elevated user.

I dont get how, it works on 7 as a user in the local admins group but in
Vista it has to be the actual local admin.

But hey the client pays us money to do this.

:)
