It's..interesting.
Dell has been trying to get into the systems management space for a long while. They hoped the KACE thing would work out, but it didn't. They have also been extremely miffed that HP keeps getting more exposure at Microsoft conferences than Dell does, so they even unveiled their own systems management conference last year. To me, Quest has turned into the old CA where they'd acquire a long list of unrelated products just so they could compete in an area, and they really don't compete very well due to the software stream being so unfocused and diluted. Quest has acquired some good products and companies over the years (Scriptlogic, Changebase, others) but, I think the acquisition costs finally caught up with them. 6 months from now, it'll be interesting to see how things have progressed and which Quest products you don't hear about anymore. There has to be a product vetting process, product focus mergers, and pieces that simply get cut. There's no possible way any company can sell, support, and promote that many products. It'll drag Dell down if they don't get a handle on it right away. From: Michael B.
