I was referring to actually configuring redirection of the AppData folder from the profile to the network, yeah. UPM does do that, unless you've specifically excluded the AppData folder from UPM. I've seen that done.
Curious, if you use UPM, do you use the file streaming option? That would reduce the amount of writes to the network and would probably be a "best of both worlds" solution as it only commits data at certain times.
