Yes, we are doing a normal store backup also. They do the brick level in order to be able to restore a single message if needed. I think it's more fluff than anything, but I didn't set it up.

FYI: That sounds like a "brick level backup" (BLB). Make sure you're backing up the Information Store separately if you're doing a BLB.
