As I understand it (and I could be mistaken), "Deleted Item Recovery"
is the terminology used from the client side (aka Outlok client) for
the act of actually recovering objects.  "Deleted Item Retention" is
the terminology used in reference to the the server side (aka
Exchange) for configuration settings, policies, etc.

So proper use of terminology can alter the fundamentals of what is
being discussed or implied.
