There are a bunch of companies that make devices like this that go into your rack. Just search for server environment monitoring system. I have heard of some folks using a system called Netbotz before and I heard some good things about those.
Also, some of my UPSs can email me when they reach a certain temp. Well - last night it tripped the circuit breaker and it was a balmy 90+ degrees when I came in to work. Thank goodness nothing failed. Does anyone have any suggestions for a basic sensor that can email my pager if the temp goes past a certain threshold? I don't need a camera or humidity/fire sensor - just temperature. It's in a secure enough location and if it's on fire or flooded there won't be anything I can do anyway. This isn't a major data center - it's just a room with 3 racks of servers and a data rack. That said - we run on less than a shoestring budget and I can't risk having this happen again. -- Organization and good planning are just crutches for people that can't handle stress and caffeine. - unknown ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~
