Unless there's been a dramatic change in the software in recent releases, Delete Prior is supposed to only delete from the handheld, never from the mailbox. Your delete setting shouldn't matter. If you are certain that's what it's doing, I suggest calling your provider for support, and ask them to escalate to RIM.
