  No.  :)

  Some ADSL modems are simply bridges.  They don't have an IP routing
functionality at all.  They get frames from the DSL wire (typically
something that smells like ATM) and bridge them to Ethernet.  The
frames on the Ethernet side will either by regular IP-over-Ethernet
packets, or PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet), in which case your equipment
has to be a PPPoE client.

  Some ADSL modems do embed a router in them, so that the frames from
the DSL wire are received and processed at the IP layer.  Then
appropriate IP traffic

  However, some of  those modem+router combos assume you will be using
an RFC-1918 private address space and NAT, and thus don't have any
option to turn NAT off.
