We use Epicor software at my place of employment, though it's the
Avante (ERP) and eFO/Clientele (CRM) package, not the Vantage package.

I can say that their support is poor, and the integration between
their own ERP and CRM packages is painful at best. I don't deal with
them directly, but I work with the people who do, and have had to
listen to numerous, lengthy and loud complaints for tech support,
sales support and actual function.

The ERP package, though, is better their CRM package - the ERP package
is based on the IBM Universe database engine, which seems to be
derived from the Pick engine - this might or might not be the case
with the product you're looking at, as I know that Epicor has plans to
abstract the ERP engine to allow it to talk with the database of
customer choice. Our programmer actually likes working with the
Universe engine, though it's not a standard relational database, but
complains regularly about the design of the code that implements the
package.

Just one instance of the poor support we've received: In the current
version of the ERP package we're using, there's little to no support
for locking down the server on which the software is installed - we
received actual advice to leave permissions wide open (Everyone - Full
Control!) on the directory tree. Astonishing.

Given all that, I can't recommend the company at all.
