Ken you working on an IIS7 CYA book. Just got done with some hands on
training on IIS 7 at Microsoft here in the NE US, and looking to see if
someone is going to cover it soup to nuts going forward. Toio bad even
the trainer could tell me how to do a silent script to set it up in
Win2008.

There's no real issue adding a Windows Server 2008 DC into an existing
environment, but it depends if you want to start using the new
functionality or not. You will need a Windows Server 2003 forest
functional level, and extend the schema if you want to do things like
escrow Bitlocker keys, or add RoDCs to the environment

Cheers

depends if it is just a member server or if you plan to use it as an ad
controller.

All sarcasm aside (if that's possible), is it this simple? There are no
implications to placing this server within my AD infrastructure?

I would do this:

1. Place the order
2. Receive the server and pay for it
3. Unpack it
4. Physical install in location of choice.
5. Run all cables
6. Turn server on
7. Configure as needed.

All of our servers are running Server 2003. Several of them are due for
replacement this summer, and I want to replace them with Server 2008
machines.

So, any pointers in terms of the process of introducing the first 2008
machine to the network?
