Don't bother with the skywalk/GCWest thing. Tourist ripoff. Stick with
north/south rim. Best way to see it is one of the sightseeing flights
out of Boulder City just south of Vegas. I live in Kingman, about 90 mi
southeast of vegas. I'm also a pilot and flying over the canyon is just
stunning. Go early morning to get the cleanest air and best light.
Mid-day washes out all the detail.
If you have the time, the GC railroad out of Williams goes to the south
rim. Spend the night at the rim, take the train back the next day. Fun
ride. But a flight is better. :-) You also get to see MUCH more of the
canyon than you can from either north/south rims.

Thanks!  Yep, the southern rim is my destination.  Although I am going
