That's exactly what I was after, thank you David. :)

The whole issue is arising from putting new PCs in our remote offices,
and wanting to be as customer friendly as possible, so that the users
don't have to reset all their default settings. Since there's only 8-11
PCs in each of the offices, this won't add a whole lot of time to our
jobs, but will add a huge happiness factor for the users.

From
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Office_Productivity/Office_Suit
es/MS_Office/Excel/Q_22532998.html:

Excel does not work the same way as Word:

The toolbar customizations live in Excelnn.xlb, where nn is the version
number (e.g. 10 for OfficeXP), which is located in C:\documents and
settings\username\application data\microsoft\Excel

Some users have a book.xlt file which can be used to store customised
settings (e.g. modified styles) located in their XLSTART directory (with
the Personal.xls macro workbook if they have one). Note: most users do
not have a book.xlt file as most of the settings set under Tools-Options
are stored in the registry.

Ok, so what I'm really asking here is whether or not there is a "base"
template for the other Office apps. Normal.dot is the blank document
that opens up when you open up Word. It has all the customizations
you've made to the default document. Is there that type of file for the
other Office apps?

The template file is an *.xlt for Excel, *.pot for PowerPoint, *.mdz for
Access, and *.one for OneNote

.dot is a Word template (just like .doc is a Word document)

Is there a normal.dot type of file for all Office programs, or just
Word?
