In one of my training courses we cover wireless auditing, and hacking, and one of the public tools we typically recommend people to use is Backtrack which you can download for free at http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack.html. Simply burn it to a cd, boot your laptop with it, and then use the tools to discover broadcast and "hidden" AP's, all for free. If your default laptop wireless card is not detected properly you can buy a cheap one from bestbuy that will work just fine.

That said, PCI standards require that we use a wireless analyzer to ensure that no rogue WAP is set up on our network. Makes sense. I have looked at several and the price ranges all over the place. Since all we need to do is look for unauthorized wireless, I don' t need all the features of most of these. I am curious who else is working on PCI and has similar issues or approaches for this piece. ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~
