Did they set a budget for this? We just went the our DR Scenario and
these where our three options (all of them virtual)

1) Platespin Forge appliance, Very Cool device we tested for a month and
worked like a peach. It's DR on a shell they retail for around $50K
List. It's a Dell rebranded server with VI3 and the Platespin Tools/OS
on it. You can have a 10 or 25 server License, add a kernel shim to the
servers you want to back up and you're good to go it does full or
incremental backups into VM's and shift's the workload back and forth in
case of DR

2) Falconstor CDP appliance, a little more than we needed but it also
did tape to Disk backup and de duplication. You need 1 appliance at each
site. The 12 TB one's with all the software and clients for 40 servers
where around $150K

3) Blades and VI3 with tape backup and restore, cheap enough and most of
it we had in place, this takes the longest to recover DR wise.

It all depends on what they want to achieve and how much downtime they
can afford to have

Subject: VMWare in DR site

Hi,

Our client wants to have a DR site.

In the primary site, all servers are in physical box. There is no
virtualization in place. In the DR site, they wanted all the DR servers
to be in a virtual environment. May I know for guys have implemented
this, do you mind sharing your experience and what to look out for?

So far what I can think of is using software like CA XOSoft or Double
Take to do a host to host replication to the DR site. Is there a better
way to do it?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Wei Yu
