I know that there are issues with backup exec and ntbackup under certain circumstances (specifically BE 9, W2003 sp2, 4mm DDS). BE loads a couple of DLL drivers that can get in the way of ntbackup. It very well may be resolved in later versions of BE, I just ran into this with one client...
