I can see a couple of potential problems independent of hardware conflicts. 1. If either backup program relies on the archive bit to select files for incremental or differential backups, your inc/diff backups won't be complete. If changes happen after BE does a diff b/u and R does a diff backup, then BE's next diff backup might miss the changed files R did. 2.
