Im trying to recall the ones I supported a few years back, we had about 30 of them across multiple sites. Everything was vpn'ed and the user just had a list of items to click.
One thing that our devices had been centralized mgmt over ip. The devices were set to 'dial in' and check in for updates and such, so changing the configs around, or adding/removing options globally was done in just a few clicks. For ease of use, we ended up making an RDP connection for each software, Outlook, Word, As/400 app, IE.
