Serial ports on Proliants don't work with external modem unless you disable their link to ILO and even so may not work correctly. Add a serial card: HP ProLiant Servers - Serial Port Is Not Working and Serial Devices Are Not Working Properly ISSUE: Serial devices are not working if they are connected to the serial port of an HP ProLiant Server. The same device is connected to third-party Server (non HP), and it works perfectly. SOLUTION: By default, the serial port of HP ProLiant Servers is occupied by the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) and the Remote access through the serial port. If a serial device needs to be connected, the remote access through the serial port needs to be disabled from the iLO, and from the ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU). >From the iLO settings, there is an option for the Command Line Interface (CLI) settings. Disable the Serial CLI Status (as shown in the following illustration). >From the RBSU, the BIOS Serial Console Port needs to be disabled, as shown in the illustration that follows. (Select BIOS Serial Console & EMS , then select BIOS Serial Console Port , and then select Disabled ). (or atdp if you use pulse dialing over there). This may even work under Unix. ________________________________ Van: Phillip Partipilo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Verzonden: donderdag 4 september 2008 16:41 Aan: NT System Admin Issues Onderwerp: Re: Test serial port on UNIX server? Maybe test it at the bare-bones level - boot it from a DOS floppy bootdisk and run an old terminal software such as Telix and see if you can operate the modem from there. It is an HP proliant DL380 G4. The software vendor whose software is installed on the server are telling me they believe the serial port is not working. It has an external USR 56k modem on the serial port, and has been working fine for 4 years. I swapped out the modem with 3 other idnetical modems and they all come up with the same error message in the software application: Yam: Error 32: No port selected So my question is.... How can I test the serial port on this UNIX server to verify that it is working correct? Thanks so much. -Dave ________________________________ If this email is spam, report it here: http://www.OnlyMyEmail.com/ReportSpam <http://www.onlymyemail.com/view/?action=reportSpam&Id=ODEzNjQ6NzM2MzI1M DYzOnBqcEBwc25ldC5jb20%3D> =============================================== De informatie opgenomen in dit bericht kan vertrouwelijk zijn en is uitsluitend bestemd voor de geadresseerde.
