I run a number of RHEL4 VMs on a couple of ESXi boxes. RHEL4 needs the LSI Logic emulated SCSI controller and cannot use the BusLogic.
If you told the VI client that it was a "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4" VM when you created it it should have done that by default.
