I've seen apparent lockups caused by 100% CPU usage during a scheduled virus 
scan, or a virus scan that kicks in during idle times.  Check your AV/AS app to 
see if you can tune its CPU usage.  McAfee enterprise defaults to 100% CPU 
during scheduled scans, but you can turn that down to just 10%
