They possibly could have asked to go into safe mode for the XP Home users, since its security tab only is accessable in safe mode.

This is not any kind of big deal, Windows (XP) has been doing this forever and I just blame it on typical Microsoft broken software, but I frequently see machines that are event logging that Windows needs to be activated within 30 days, but it doesn't. It won't ask to be activated, wont pop up a tray message, and wont refuse to log on. Windows just likes to happily plop that event into the application log - who knows why, just for the hell of it I guess.
