I have not so far even contemplated creating and installing an XP virtual
machine on my Vista desktop.

I am taking the view that my inability to log on using RDP, is associated with
the inability to connect to any of the printers I published on the Windows 2008
server.

I am also taking both of these events as indicative of my having missed some
vital part of the dis-arming of all the overbearing security features on Win08K.

I have to say that I think it is ridiculous to ship a server operating system
so locked down that it will not perform any useful function "out of the box"

Has anyone any thoughts on what I might have forgotten to do in order to make
the server perform usefully in a Windows 2K domain?
