+1

I primarily use FTP and I have "demo" FTP servers in several of my centers for
prospects to test throughput, carrier reliability, etc. However, I have
assisted prospects and current customers setting up MRTG Bundle, PCs running
perfmon and Cisco devices running Netflow, among others. In my limited
experience, FTP always shows the cleanest, most consistent results.

I'd say FTP is your best bet since it is such a low overhead "raw" TCP
protocol. If you have a Linux distro that you can setup on both ends to test,
that would be optimal as Windows periodically has problems with TCP Window
Scaling.

Subject: testing Speed Reliably between datacenters

Hey Guys;

Now that we have our DR datacenter up and running we are trying to determine
our speed in between the datacenters, Both of them have primary 50 MB pipes to
the internet. What tools does everyone use to test speeds? Outside of things
like speedtest.net or websites like that? FTP Test? SSH? SCP? I just want to do
some sort of measurement that will give me a good idea, it seems that our top
speed right now is 3-5 MB/sec which is horrid.

Thx!
