I have both an older Casio (cheap device + expensive tapes) and a Brother P-Touch device that uses the TZ tapes. Brother is the better device and the device is more money but the tapes are a bit less - at least around here.
I agree - labeling both ends of the wire and the jacks is best - took me a long time to get my last full time gig labeled. It was a 3 year old building and NOTHING was labeled when I got there. Many lines didn't function properly and had to be replaced. And NOTHING was certified either. Much better when I left. Early on I even used mailing labels and wrapped it with clear packing tape. Crude but cheap and effective. Later the Casio tape labels covered with clear heat shrink tube made for about as permanent a label as I found. But that was time consuming to do all of that - but it sure looked pretty in the server room patch panels.
