In general your management console/parent server should be the same or 
higher then your clients.  10.x is cranky enough when you follow 
Symantec's recommendations :)

Would be a perfect time to go to SEP 11 - we are moving to it and it's 
much nicer then the 10.x and earlier code streams.  As much as I loath 
SAV, SEP 11 is actually pretty nice.
