We use a think called Pointsec. We run it on our restr!cted network,
and you can only write to USB devices which have been encrypted using
this. If you want to use the USB device in a non-company machine which
does not run the actual Pointsec s/w then there is a small app you can
run on the USB device which prompts for a password and then opens on a
browser window of the device.

Essentially we use this to prevent any embarrassing USB device losses!

Or prisoner and military staff records over in the UK J

Having looked at the TrueCrypt method, I don't think it's as...intuitive
as we are looking for for our end users. It also requires admin rights,
which rules out most of our end users and clients as they tend to run
with 'proper' permissions.

Hi chaps,

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to securely encrypt data on a
CD or USB HD that will go in the post? It has to be something that is
fairly universal and doesn't require software at the other end (or at
least if it does, that has to be free).

I thought about password protected RAR or Zip, or even self extracting
rar's, but I doubt the real world security of something that you get
password crackers for from most warez sites.

Any suggestions ?

Olly
