Roger, I have had a few processes in place for some time, and I have slowly been adding more and more backups to my WAN replication process. I have about 2TB of data, and also use BE 12.5. (However, BE doesn't offer much help to me in this arena). - Currently, I ship 2 critical SQL database over the WAN 4 times a day, and Exchange Logs every 4 hours as well. - I backup all the laptops to a local drive every 4 hours, then replicate that 200GB offsite nightly via RSYNC. (Only about 300MB is actually transferred per night). - DR information, and Business Critical working documents are synced off site nightly. - I use SyncBack Pro to shoot many of my small BE 12.5 *.bak files over the WAN. (Many people on this list would probably prefer RoboCopy instead). I love the GUI and flexibility of this product). This is all in addition to, not replacement, of normal backup practices done locally. (All servers get a full nightly backup, and everything is taken offsite via encrypted drives every weekend, etc). Looking to add to the mix: - I am playing around with solutions to replicate my VMDK files over the WAN as well via block-level /delta file copies using RSYNC. So far, the results are good. Frequency will depend on bandwidth generated. This process will solely be for the purpose of disaster recovery (It will provide me with a bootable cold image of our servers offsite. Once booted, then BE 12.5 will propagate the servers with new files and databases from the 4 hour backups process I already have in place). - Syncing our complete file share (About 300GB). I doubt the delta traffic will be that high... - Getting Exchange 2007 for built in Replication. - Products such as Veem Replicator, etc that replicate my VMs to an offsite ESX in a warm state. I didn't really need much hardware except an offsite storage device (this are cheap, even with raid, Ethernet). I mostly script everything, and use free products in conjunction with Backup Exec. RSYNC and SyncBack Pro are my favs. I haven't seen BackupExec offer me much in off-site help... But it's a great products imo. I throttle all offsite backup traffic to 4Mbps of my 10Mbps upload pipe. It's very doable! One of my favorite facets of my job! -Sam

Does it only work well with deduplication? Would I have to rethink my nightly/weekly/monthly backup strategies? I'm currently working with BE 12 soon to be 12.5 and would like to stick with that if possible. And we have about 5 TB total data stored right now.
