Greetings! My office desktop, always flakey (it never ran IE correctly), finally reached the point where it was time to wipe the system partition and rebuild it.
I am now trying to re-build my various management tools, etc. I once had the Group Policy Management Console running on my system. It let me create, edit, link, etc GPOs throughout my domain. Looking in my downloads, I found "gpmc.msi" from October, 2005. It won't install... As a part of the build process, I ran MS Update numerous times. Ultimately .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0, SP2 for both, installed. (This was necessary for my VoIP client and management tools to work anyway.) However, when I tried to run the "gpmc.msi" (and was logged in as an administrator), the message I received said that it would not install because .NET Framework was not installed. SO... I spent an absurd amount of time at MS Update downloading the 250 Mb .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and installing it. After the re-boot, I get the same message... Might the GPMC be a strange on which absolutely requires .NET Framework 1.0? I thought .NET 3.5 kind-of put all versions of .NET onto a system. Alternatively, is there a newer GPMC which will work with a Windows 2003 Native domain, all systems Windows XP? Thanks! -- Richard D.
