Yes this seems pretty silly to me. Why not just have a router/firewall which routes traffic between the two networks?

The network at the datacenter... going into our rack is setup this way: ISP -> Datacenter Firewall -> VLAN to our switch on the rack All servers on the rack have an IP address for the datacenter side, and have another IP address for P2P side.
