I have seen the advice to use the intel/nvidia/ati software in the control 
panel to set it instead of the display settings and for me that worked better.

Everything is the same except mine has the Intel chipset, not the nVidia.

Here is what we did to solve this:

- Updated the BIOS from (I think A05) to A13 (ours were purchased and
they had a bunch of BIOS updates ~3 mos later.  We never had a problem
with A05 other than the one you describe.
- Updated the nvidia drivers from A00 to A02
- Disabled the TMM task

The video settings in the BIOS are at default for us.  We use this
same docking station.  I could have sworn that Dell had some sort of
press release about this, sorry dude, I can't find it.
