Can you use TCPVIEW or Process explorer on the machine the DTS package is running from and the one in the DMZ and see if any communications are being tried?

My DBA is trying to set up a DTS connection to push data from our production DB to a SQLServer box in the DMZ. I've got port 1433 open from from the production machine to the DMZ machine, and name resolution is good - I've set up a static DNS entry - but when trying to set up the DTS package through the wizard the machine in the DMZ doesn't appear in the dropdown list, which makes some sense to me as it's a standalone box, not on the domain. I'm also open to the idea that DTS isn't the right way of doing this, but I don't know what the alternatives would be. Any help much appreciated.
