Ahh well, my thought was to use an existing solution as that would probably be cheaper. We already have our data mirrored to another server that is not in the same building as the other (its in our distribution warehouse about ¼ mile up the hill) using DFS. We also have another location out of town where we could, theoretically, put another machine up there and copy the data up there for DR purposes, I guess. Trouble is right now, we dont have the bandwidth for something like this.
Now that you mention it, I suppose it wouldnt be THAT much trouble or cost (at least no recurring costs) to get another server and set it up to duplicate the data and then move it to our out-of-town facility (has a hardware VPN back to us) and use it for DR. Thats an interesting idea I suppose once the data is mirrored onto a new server, it wouldnt be that much bandwidth . Hmm something to think about, I guess. Course the up-front costs would be fairly large . I guess, at least to start with, wed probably want an existing solution. Maybe later as the economy improves, I could convince management to invest in a third server we could use for DR purposes up at our remote location. I am afraid that the initial backup (approximately ½ terabyte) would kill our internet connection, though :-/ What I need is something that is 1) low-cost (or at least not going to charge an arm and three legs) 2) secure and 3) redundant (both redundant servers and redundant internet connection.) Anyone got any suggestions??? John-AldrichTile-Tools No virus found in this incoming message.
