At my last employer, they did exactly that. I'm not sure which attribute it was, possibly "division"? But it was something they wanted the help desk people to populate that was not shown in ADUC by default. I don't have the details but I know it can be done.

However, for our helpdesk staff, using ADSI Editor to change the attributes of the group (if necessary) is a little daunting. Is there any way that you can create some sort of extension to ADUC to modify a custom attribute?
