Wow. Lame.
http://blogs.msdn.com/outlook/archive/2009/06/17/google-apps-sync-disables-o utlook-search.aspx Personally I don't like MS's implementation of Instant Search, but it's so much better than not having it at all. What a stupid move on Google's part, especially since they compete in this space on both the search and services level. Apparently, if you like Instant Search you should not use the Google App's Sync until they have a new version. http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/2009/06/whats-different-with-google-app s-sync.html "Windows Desktop Search will not properly index Google Apps Sync data files, so in order to stop indexing from running indefinitely, the Google Apps Sync installer disables it. We recommend using the default Outlook search." -- Mike Gill From: Mike Gill [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 2009 12:19 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Instant Search In Outlook 2007 not functioning Vista Biz 32bit SP2, Outlook 2007 SP2. A month or so ago I noticed all the Instant Search fields were greyed out in Outlook. It's there, but you can't type in any of the fields like From, Body, Subject, etc. I've tried rebuilding the index in Vista, searched everywhere in Outlook looking for a checkbox of some sort that I may have mistakenly (un)selected. Office Diagnostics show no problems. I have tried a registry value that is suppose to re-initialize Windows Search all together. Disk space isn't a problem. Google yields the same 3 or 4 posts over and over with no solution or for people running XP. Any suggestions? -- Mike Gill ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~
