Point Taken.

Now this: Why wouldn't Apple play nicely, and enjoy profits from all
the Pre users that are now using the iTunes Store to purchase Music,
Movies, etc...? Jobs always talks up this 'Open' stuff... Maybe they
are losing their way? I think it was a hasty, bitter decision since
their peeps are now working for Palm.

I'm going to call your statement horse hockey.
On their May 28th press release Palm wrote, "Palm media sync is a
feature of webOS that synchronizes seamlessly with iTunes, giving you a
simple and easy way to transfer DRM-free music, photos and videos to
your Palm Pre." That was the first sentence of the 2nd paragraph, where
the first paragraph was a description of the demonstration and
demonstrators at the All Things Digital conference.
(Link:http://investor.palm.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=386488)

So, Palm did think iTunes integration was a big deal, since it was the
first thing they mentioned about the phone in that release. If they had
some former Apple peeps, then those peeps should've known that this hole
in iTunes would be quickly closed by Apple, and probably had a good idea
of how quickly it could be closed. I don't think I'm stretching my
logic too far, either.

So the situation we can deduce, is Palm's marketing department creating
buzz around a feature that everyone at Palm knew (or should've known)
would be squashed. I'm actually suprised it took Apple as long as it
did to close the hole.

If my description of some reasonable suppositions isn't an example of a
company who lost its way, I don't know what is.

Someone said yesterday on this list that Palm lost its way a
long time ago. This is just one more example.
