Years ago, I worked for a company that send subscription based emails with targeted content. This was not free, they paid hus a couple hundred $ per year. Then they would complain and want off of our "spam" list. We'd call them and explain "you paid us $200 on 7/21". They would sometimes be beligerent "stop sending me spam". Not one, ever, asked for a refund. Ironically, I remember 2 or 3 that renewed the next year.
