Sounds like you found the problem. Another issue we had years ago was that Gateway had some "programmable" keyboards, and you could reprogram some keys to do other things. If you inadvertantly hit the "program key" near the top of the keyboard the next key touched was the one you wanted to program and the one after that was what the selected key would then become. You had to go through and un-program any changes made to get it to work again. I finally replaced them as removing some accidental programming every week became a PITA.
