I had this same issue with a 1022 printer when printing pdfs the other day.
Did a search for that dll (the one that caused the spooler to bomb) and
found a forum on the HP site where a ton of people had the same issues.
There were a lot of workarounds involved and basically HP stated that they
did not have a fix for it and did not plan on fixing it.

What worked for me was downloading the full driver download from the HP site
(which apparently does not have that dll packaged with it), running the
clean spool utility to remove the original drivers, then manually installing
the drivers that I previously downloaded.
