Have them connect to the VPN prior to login.  They should work then
depending on your address space setup.  On the ASA I have the users login
first then open a tunnel and that is the result (same as yours).  When we
were on the PIX I allowed the users the option to open a tunnel then login.
They seemed to really not care for the open tunnel option prior to login
option.  Opening the tunnel their mapped drives always seemed to be there
without touching them when they went to get something of the network.
