To meet both your budget and hardware needs, I would look at the Dell Studio 15. It is a very nice machine, which is heavier than I personally would want to carry, but that is due to screen size. I, like has already mentioned on other replies, would much rather have a smaller screen in order to have a lighter laptop. I personally have one of the Dell XT convertibles and love it but we have had a couple of the Studio line come through on the last year and they are well built machines that are excellent for personal use IMHO.
