Software RAID (particularly RAID-1) can work OK - depending on your usage
needs.  But, your system will take a performance hit if its not hardware
based.

Its better than nothing, but could make using it on a regular basis
annoying, and a loss of productivity for all those accessing it.

I would buy a card.
