I've had FIOS at home for a couple of years now. It has been down maybe 3 times that I know of, and each of those has been only for a few minutes. I only had to call customer service once, and it was back up by the time I got to a technician (maybe 10 or 15 minutes all told). We also have TV with Verizon and the picture quality is far superior to what we experienced with Comcast. The crazy Motorola STB decides it wants to freak out every once in a while and reboots itself, but other than that the TV has been fantastic.
One thing about FIOS is that Verizon will literally remove the existing copper wire to your house making it difficult to obtain traditional phone service from another provider down the road. Oh, and their CEO is a BIG fan of net neutrality -http://news.cnet.com/8301-30686_3-10379932-266.html. I pretty much hate Verizon, but FIOS is a superb offering. My $.02.
